In Between explores a world and life in tension. The record attempts confront and untangle this mysterious human experience that can be so curiously plagued with colossal extremes of joy and suffering.

For better or worse, this is where we find ourselves – In Between. Careening around the Sun for a handful of decades spending most of our days trading the meaningful for the mundane.

We are all familiar with this place of In Between. We can spend all day dreaming about the future or soaking in nostalgia for the past, but ultimately we are neither of those places. We are here. We are In Between.

As a place of uncertainty, the In Between can be frustrating, even frightening. But that uncertainty also means there is immense potential to be found there.

Perhaps the meaningful and the mundane can live in harmony under the same roof. Perhaps the undeniable beauty of life can be made even sweeter when held in contrast to the hardships we experience.

We believe so. In Between is our attempt to illuminate this truth.

The first two tracks of the record, Feels Like Home and Desert Heart, err on the more hopeful side of the In Between – appealing to our common humanity and the ruthless persistence of life. The last two tracks, Red Flame and Hold On, seek to confront the jarring existentiality of the human condition that plagues us with unanswerable questions and unavoidable decay.

At the heart of the record, the song Bittersweet attempts to hold the two extremes in balance. Being the third of five songs, Bittersweet is the anchor, the focal point of the record. Each verse has a chiastic structure, with the middle verse revolving around the familiar lyrics... “In Between”.
